KDE 4.1.3, nVidia Quadro NVS140M & Desktop effects: Finally usable!

Okay, I am not a huge fan of Desktop Effects (I get dizzy with too many cube transitions & wobbly windows) but some are really neat – and finally I CAN use them! I installed yesterday from the rpmfusion-testing repository the 180.22 version of the nVidia drivers and I can finally use the desktop effects I need without them being annoyingly slow! I can’t wait to see what KDE 4.2 has behind the corner for us πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

For the history, what I have is:

  • Present windows (with a hotspot top-left)
  • Shadow (to better distinguish application windows from underlying ones)
  • Translucency (to look easily underneath a window)
  • Desktop grid (with a hotspot bottom left and animation disabled as I may switch desktops really quick)
  • Cover switch (’cause it’s cool and useful!)

How did you install that driver?
    yum –enablerepo=rpmfusion-testing install “what?”
    Which kernel is supported?
