More on suspended animation

While browsing Slashdot I came accross a link to an article about suspended animation. In case you’re too bored to read the article (it’s not that big though and definitely recommended), the story goes like this: A pig with some otherwise fatal injuries is being put in suspeded animation by filling its circulatory system with chilled organ-preservation fluid – a nearly frozen mix of salts, sugars, and free-radicals. Its temperature drops to around 10 degrees Celsius, brain activity ceases. After two hours or surgery they pump warm blood back in the pig’s body. It’s heart starts pumping again! After 6 hours in total the pig if fully alive and kicking. Amazing isn’t it?
